The production of matches is a long established tradition in Estonia. The first match
factories in Estonia were founded in the first half of the 18th century. Our factory, known
as Viljandi Match Factory, was founded already in 1904 and is the only one out of the
original 4 match factories still operating.
After the privatization by Estonian Match Ltd. in 1995 Viljandi Metsakombinaat has
developed rapidly. We have managed to keep up with the increasing demand as well as
the need for better quality. Presently the matches produced in Estonia meet all necessary
quality measurement (EN 1783:1997:SAF).
